teak oil

Post by rtbates »

I finally got around to using the above product and I must say it's simply a wonderful product. While I have NOT started on Seraph's teak YET, I have applied it to the teak boarding ladder steps I made, a red oak garden bench and a teak picnic table.

What's so good about it?

1. Every 30 minutes a new coat can be applied.
2. Application consists of sloping it on, allow it to penetrate and wipe off the excess.
3. It's IN the wood not on the wood so any surface dings will not allow moisture to get under it like varnish or Cetol.
4. Cleans up with water.
5. Beautiful satin patina.( IF you like shiny surfaces you won't like it).

I think I will give it a try on my unfinished teak lazarettes. It sounds like the texture of the wood is retained which is what is needed for a surface that will be walked on occasionally and should not be slippery or slick.

Exactly. Seems like it would be the perfect product for teak decks and swim platforms as well. I think I'm going to like it also for the fact that it can not fail because of a dropped winch handle putting a nick in the finish and allowing moisture to get under it.

I'll let you know for sure. Seeing as how I have it on a few pieces at my house I'll be able to keep a good eye on it over time.

We'll have two test cases since I also am soon to go the same route. I have purchased enough to do all of the exterior teak on my 25D. I'm hoping their claims are good because it sure seems easy to work with.

Make that three test cases

I'll be putting TeaQua on at least some of my exterior teak in a week or two. The wood is completely bare now, so it's gotta be an improvement. I'll report back on how it fares.

First post in at least a couple of years, btw. Been off the water for a while because of other things -- glad to be back.

If it arrives this week, I'll give it a test over the weekend.
