I need to replace the teak rub rail for a 77 CD 25. I am wondering if anyone has had these made and where. It is quite expensive to have a mill make new tooling to cut them. Another alternative may be buying a router bit. I checked with San Angelo as recommeded on the website but they didn't start making the teak pieces for Cape Dory until 80s and could not help. thanks for any suggestions. Ken

Look in the "Where to Look" section of this board under parts and supplies for St. Angelo Hardwoods. They have the moldings and were a OEM for teak to Cape Dory.

I had Bristol Marine make up (or they had Steve St. Angelo make up) and install the rubrail on Remedy, my 1977 CD27, from the scarf joint forward (16 feet) on one side of the hull. The cost was about $350 for materials (including bedding compound and screws) and about 20 hours labor. They did a first-rate job and the new rail is indistinguishable from the old.
The original tooling is not really all that relevant on a 20-plus year old boat, given the multiple sandings it has likely endured. The key is to match what is on the boat now.
Try sending St. Angelo a chunk of the existing rail that you want to replace - he will sort through the pile of cutters he has and find one close. If you are near Rhode Island, call Pat at Bristol Marine - 401-253-2200.
