Is a CD 25 eligible for documentation or is it beneath the threshold? I have recently bought one and my brother insists documentation is the way to go. He owns a larger boat an did document it.

Re: Documentation
I understand that the 25D makes it. Not sure about the 25.smurphy wrote:Is a CD 25 eligible for documentation or is it beneath the threshold? I have recently bought one and my brother insists documentation is the way to go. He owns a larger boat an did document it.

You can do the calculation here:

As for it being "the way to go," aside from taking the ugly registration numbers off, you probably won't notice any difference.

CD 25 Documentation
Over the past few years I have compiled a database of documentation examples of Cape Dorys and have not come across a 25 that had been documented. If you work out the appropriate measurements for the 25, I'd like to add them to the database for reference. I doubt that the 25 will qualify as the 25D seems to fall somewhat below the criterion even though a few have been documented.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Like others have said the 25D does make it size wise, the 25 does not. It's based on volume. If I remember correctly the "draft" of the 25D, for documentation purposes, is listed at 6 or 6.5 feet. A 25D drafts 3.5 feet It's measured from the bottom of the keel to the cabin trunk or something along those lines. Again, if I remember right the 25D is listed at 5 tons. A 25D displaces 5120 lbs, empty. I believe 5 ton is the minimum.
It was a good thought.
Being documentated USED to keep us from paying Texas any fees. They've gotten wise and now even documentated vessels must register with the state and pay the user fee. BUT at least we, documentated vessels, don't have to have any numbers on the hull. Just the registration sticker which I place on the head's glass ports.

Except it's what you said, it's based on volume. Tonnage is how many casks (tuns) of whatever you can carry on board. 1 tun = 2 butts, if that helps.rtbates wrote:A 25D displaces 5120 lbs, empty. I believe 5 ton is the minimum.
