SPINLOCK double Rope Clutch Adapter Plate

Post by Leo MacDonald »

Hi All,

I have a 2 SPINLOCK double Rope Clutches (lying around since Heather Ann days);

1. A Model “XA” (for 5/16” to ½” line) that I would like to mount on the Boom to
secure two of the reef lines.

2. A Model “??” (for up to 5/8” line) that I would like to mount on the Mast to secure
two Halyards.

But, the backside of each is flat and the boom & Mast are curved.

Did SPINLOCK make an ‘adapter plate’ of sorts? If so, where would I find one?

Thanks :)

Could you adapt this?

If not, the principal seems useful. Any fishing tower place should be able to whip up a few from scrap stainless or aluminum.

a good 1/2 round file

Leo:

I had a similar problem on Mariah but instead of Spinlock, I had a Lewmar Dual Rope clutch that I wanted to use for the mainsail reef lines. (To replace the open jam cleat).
The boom has a very slight, protruding curve to it along the length of where I wanted the clutch to go. The Lewmar D1s have about a 3/16 inch lip on the underside. By using a 1/2 round metal file, I was able to file a slight channel in this lip so that the clutch fits exactly to the curve of the boom.
The D1s have an aluminum body. I am not sure what the Spinlock has but even if it is plastic and it has a lip, it should readily file down. It really doesn't take much filing.

Sail on.

I have some HDPE and a band saw. I would attempt to make them for you if you can provide a full size diagram. Warning the HDPE I have is sort of an ugly green color!
