As I posted previously on this page, I was for many weeks frustrated by a problem of not being able to properly idle the Farymann 1-cylinder A-30 diesel in my CD-28. No amount of adjustment of the throttle cable worked. The throttle either died or accelerated, always at the wrong time (such as trying to pick up a mooring, or docking.)I finally got some advice from Farymann distributor in New Jersey. When external adjustments don't work, you have to go into the engine and adjust the pin clearance on the governor. It's a lot of time-consuming work, because each time you adjust a slotted nut that in turn adjusts the pin clearance, the only way to know if it is right is to reassemble the engine and start it up. If that isn't right, you have to pull the engine apart again. A mechanic here did just this for me and FINALLY the engine runs like a Swiss watch. I thought this might be useful for anyone with the same engine experiencing this very rare but annoying problem. Also, if anyone else has this engine but no shop manual, I'd be happy to make photo copies of the pertinent pages from mine and mail them. -Joe Brown, CD-28 "Caprice," Rockport, Maine
