In a nutshell, everything is there. The inside is in good condition and really just needs a thorough cleaning, some varnish on the wood and new cushions. The stanchions and pulpits were destroyed, but we've had good luck in the past ordering those from a company called White Water Marine out of Michigan. The starboard side of the hull was pretty well crushed in about 4 (fairly small) places and will require cutting away and rebuilding. The rub rail and most of the toe rail are gone on the port side and the hull to deck joint has been ground away for about a foot section as well. The rudder needs some work in the usual spot most Cape Dories do. Where the leading edge interacts with the keel it is worn thin around the rudder post. (We had to make that same repair on our Typhoon and have seen the problem in other CD's as well.) There are a few holes here and there made by errant protrusions either on the dock or surrounding boats. But the decks are sound (no soft spots at all), and the mast looks good with the exception of one bent spreader. The stem fitting is sprung and the bow roller bent a bit. We are lucky on the metal repairs, as my husband works at a Technical High School that has a machine shop and the kids love unusual projects. There are sails and an outboard (which we haven't tried to start yet). Speaking of the outboard, does anyone know if the outboard bracket that Spartan Marine makes for the Typhoon will work on the 22?
All in all, we are pleased with the purchase and can't wait to get started working on her, but of course that would be futile now as the epoxy resin would never kick in this cold weather.
Triad has started work on a trailer and we are planning to pave a pad for her in the back yard. I feel like we've been getting ready for a new baby.
I am hoping to put together a very basic website to record our progress on the project and we would be grateful for any and all information, advise and encouragement. Hope to see you on the Bay this season!!
