Here are the answers to a recent e-mail inquiry concerning my boat.

1-Why are you selling, how long have you owned the boat, what year and model number (on bronze plate at rear of cockpit) is it?

I decided to get out of sailing for now. I was frustrated the year I took so much time working on the woodwork, getting it to look nice, getting new sails, and then we went to Europe and I hardly had any time to sail it.

2-Is a trailer offered? If so, is it included in purchase price?

No trailer

3-Outboard - year, manufacturer, horsepower, condition?

Outboard looks old it is an Evinrude Yatchwin - 4 horse has been maintained. Working.

4-Sails - manufacturer?

I bought the sails from Harding Sails in Marion, MA where I live. They measured them and had them made in Florida. It would've been a few hundred more if they made them in Marion.

5-Electrical system - battery(s), list of lights, charging system?

No electrical. I bought some battery operated lights, but never installed them.

6-How many boat stands? Are they included in the purchase price?

4 Boat stands included.

7-GPS - brand/model/year, included in purchase price?

GPS Garmin Etrex Mariner - probably 4 years old?

8-Dinghy/oars - mfr/approximate year/size/type of dinghy, included or separate from purchase price and how much if separate?

Dinghy and oars included. Fiberglass. Sort of a wide stable one w/ 3 small keels. Oars are a few years old.

9-Rigging - specifically, what has been replaced and when? Is that standing or running rigging?

I bought a new back stay. I have a new mainsail lift line and some other newer sheets.

10-What other boat equipment comes with purchase price, if any?
(anchors, PFD's, fenders, anything else)

I have several basic life vests - probably 4 or 5. A few anchors. The hinged kind for the sail boat and small one for the dinghy. I have a few fenders.

11-Known specific Typhoon problem areas: Is there any cracking of the gelcoat topsides around the mast step area? Has the cabintop under the mast step compressed in any way? Is the bridge timber under the mast step damaged in any way? Does the toe rail leak into the interior anywhere? Are the chainplates leaking in any way? Are the chainplate knees (plywood) delaminated in any way? Is there any deck or cabintop core rot, softness or gelcoat cracking, especially in the area of fitting attachments such as cleats, winches, stanchion bases, etc.? How have you treated the topsides woodwork since you've owned the boat? Do any of the fastenings stand proud of the woodwork due to sanding of the finish over the years? In what condition is the wood generally?

I spent a lot of time restoring the wood. 3 coats of cetol light. One rail is new. No leaks, softness, or cracking. Actually a few drips from one porthole. Not enough to bother to fix, but may need to be resealed. Nothing stands proud.

12-Cushions - are the older ones to which you refer the cockpit or interior cushions? Are there interior cushions?

I have the interior cushions still. I have the old cockpit cushions as well as the new ones.

13-What is the date of the additional picture which you link to in your advertisement? ("The Last time I pulled the boat out before painting")

Picture taken Nov 2003.

Ty Weekender For Sale

Post by Oswego John »

Joel,

That is one beautiful boat that you are selling. (More on that later)

Anyone who is thinking about buying a boat should ask the hard questions, decide if that's the right boat and above all, have a survey done.

Buying your first boat is one thing. For someone who has some experience, been around boats a bit, buying Joel's boat is a no brainer. Joel, you're not selling your boat for $3,900, you are practically giving it away for $1,400.

The people reading your ad should realize that included in the asking price is $1,200 worth of new sails. 4 boat stands at roughly $100 apiece. Let's say a decent dinghy with oars might be worth $500, conservately speaking. Maybe $200 for a running outboard motor, $50 bucks for misc. anchors, PFDs and fenders. What about a used GPS - $100 ??. Let's say $40 for new lights still in the box. I forgot to include new cockpit cushions. Add whatever price you want for them.

After you do the math on the whole package for $3,900, what is this Ty in beautiful shape actually going for? Joel, I suggest that you don't bend over backwards any farther. You just sit on this boat for a few more months, until the sap starts flowing in both the trees and boaters innards and this boat should go in a heartbeat. If it doesn't, let me know and it'll be gone.

You have a beautiful Ty

Good luck,
O J
