I have had 2 sequential failures of the water pump impeller on my Yanmar 1GM after only 8 and 50 hours, respectively. The rubber blade part separated from the metal insert that is turned by the shaft. This gives one an insecure feeling that the impeller will fail at any time randomly. Both impellers were Yanmar originals and the pump itself is new. Previous impellers in the pump had run for about 200 hours each. I got replacement impellers from a Yanmar service marina that were said to be 1/2 the price of Yanmar's - JABSCO #14609-0001 for $18.85. It seems that the dimensions and construction are identical except that the blades are thicker and less flexible. Has anyone had experience with the JABSCO impellers and is the bond between the insert and the rubber part better? For our information, I'm going to contact Yanmar and JABSCO to see if this is a common problem. Torreson told me that they had never heard of this type of failure with this Yanmar impeller.
