I repowered my boat last spring and want to put in sound insulation. What have people had the best luck with. What is the optimal thickness of the insulation that I sould go with. I have lots of room in the engine compartment, so I could go with 2" insulation.

Dave:
I used sound insulation obtained from Sailors Solutions (http://www.sailorssolutions.com/) for insulating the engine compartment on the CD22D that I previously owned. It was easy to apply, adhered well and made a great improvement in reducing engine noise.
Good luck,
Jim

Insulation
Perhaps something like this might suit your needs. It's not 2" thick, but it does a great job of taming diesel racket.

Soundown
Soundown was pretty effective for us. We didn't have a lot of room, so we put in less than the maximum thickness and it is still impressive. Please note that sailing is better and one still sighs when the engine is cut off.
