I just received my new gooseneck from Rigrite to convert to jiffy reefing. However, I can't figure out how to remove the original- it is the one set up for roller reefing the main. It has 3 rivets on it. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thank you.

My old gooseneck was attached to the boom with screws-I don't specifically know the best way to remove rivets. I did have to work a bit with a grinding wheel on the male end of the gooseneck to get it to slide into the boom.
Just some more "messing around with boats"!

Pop rivets are easy- first, buy a rivet gun. OK, it really helps to have one on hand. Drill out the HEAD of the rivet by using a drill bit 2 - 3 times larger than the hole in the center of the rivet (the belly button) most boat rivets are 3/16" or 1/4" in diameter. Use a 7/32 or 9/32 drill bit. You only want to spin the head off, don't drill into the mast. Once the head is off, you may need to weaken the rivet by drilling the body out. I use a 1/8" drill for a 3/16" rivet. Drill only as deep as the mast is thick. Take a 1/8" center punch and drive the rivet out. You may be able to find a scrap mast at the boatyard to try this on first. Or, set a rivet in some scrap sheetmetal and then pop it out.
