CDory

Post by Jim F »

I was just pulling out of my driveway when an SUV towing a nice looking boat went in front of me, had nice lines and was brand new looking, on the side of the cabin it said C (big C and inside the "C" it said Dory. It does not look like any Cape Dory I have ever seen. I am not very familiar with any of the power boat CD made but this one is a lot newer than when they shut down production. Any ideas as to where or what it was? I did not see any mast with it but at 45 mph I did not have a lot of time to look real close.

There is a manufacturer of small power boats called C-Dory. I don't think that there is any connection to Cape Dory. If Cape Dory was still in existence there might be some trademark issues. I wonder who if anyone owns the rights to the name.

Here on the Chesapeake there's a "C-Dory" 22 ft outboard-powered cruiser (I'm reading from an ad in Chesapeake Bay Magazine) built by Cutter Marine in or near Annapolis, phone 410-391-7245. Nice looking power boat.

Melissa and I saw one on a trailer headed south on I495 last Saturday. It was the first one I have ever seen in person.

FYI a 22 ft C-Dory was the boat used in the book "River Horse: The Logbook of a Boat Across America" by William Least Heat-Moon.

(Yes I did read it. It wasn't exactly my cup of tea but others seem to like it.)

Hi...
c-dory have been around for around twenty years or so.
we had one in friday harbor WA for two weeks for fishing and seeing the whale and seals, we do that ever other year.
the one we had had two 50 hps motors on the stern and all so had a nice cabin for four people.
they can be cut in half and will float, they are filled with foam like the boston whalers.
you see allot of them on the west coast.
thats where the are made.
after we had one, i saw the book river horse,
most people don't like the book, you have to like that kind of boating on the rivers.
its all right for reading.
