Engin shut off handle location

Post by Dennis Truett »

Last weekend I took my CD26D out for my first shake down trip. So much for a shake down trip.... we had the sail in the water... I guess thats sailing for you. One question though... The shut off for the Westerbeke engine is a push handle under the port lazarett hatch. This seemed to be a poor location when you have people in the cockpit. Does anyone see any harm in relocating it to the aft section of the cocpit, next to the engine controll panel?

Thanks to all!

The shut off for the Universal M-18 engine on my CD 30 is a T handle located on the engine control panel in the aft section of the cockpit. If the location is good enough for Universal, it should work for the Westerbeke, assuming your cable is long enough to reach the panel.

Mine is located next to the instrument pasnel at the aft end of the cockpit. I guess the wisdom of placing in the lazarette is so the handle doesn't snag the mainsheet.
