Varnish porn
Some closeup shots of a couple of vintage water taxis that I snapped last week in Venice. Inspiration for those of you contemplating a return from the Dark Side (Cetol). Dig the unfussy piling loops.

Venetian dialect proverb of the week, overheard from a boatman unloading vegetables at quayside: Schei di villani e palle di cani i xe sempre in mostra (New money and dogs' balls are always on display).

at last my new signature quote!
Oh, I owe you Carter. A collector or odd and obscure quotes can only relish that one!

Cap'n Brey on the loose in Venice and obviously with some time on his hands!
I guarantee ya' that the piling loops intrigued him more than the varnish job.
As for the quote...marvelous! And I'm quite sure that if the boatman didn't express it first, Cap'n Brey would have made the very same observation!

having trouble with this....
Schei di villani (new money). Is this maybe soldi villani? and slang for rude/coarse money. My extremely limited Italian acquired from a previous wife, mostly through osmosis, puts new money at maybe nuovo dinaro or maybe nuova soldi or some such.
... or maybe I should just start rolling winos and collecting aluminum cans for the cash to go to Venice and explore the linguistic nuances first hand. heheh
Of course, since my primary language vocabulary could be put on a few pages of a notebook, any secondary ones can rarely make even a bumper-sticker. So maybe I should forget the language research and stick to the vino?
