Armada

Re: Armada
Ken,
West Marine does carry Armada. Your local store manager, however, is chosing not to carry it in his store. He can get it from West Marine's distribution center. The store gets at least a weekly delivery from the center.
You will love the product. Very similar to Cetol, but with a better color.

Re: Armada
Does the Cetol have to be removed entirely before putting Armada on?

Hamilton Marine (1-800-639-2715) sells Armada for about $22 per quart.
I just refinished s/v Dr. Pepper with Armada and I'm pleased with the results so far.

Re: Armada
I am planning on putting another coat of Cetol on my CD330 over the next several weeks. I have seen several praises for Armada and would like to consider it as an alternative to Cetol. Can Armada be applied over Cetol? Will the red color of Cetol eventually dissipate?

Re: Armada
I am in my third year with Amarda Satin, and I have come to love it. The color is nothing like the teak color I bought when I aquired my Typhoon(teak oil over freshely sanded), But I bought the boat to sail, not preserve. I find the Armarda easy to maintain, Teak-like( in the most complementry sense) and low maintence. My fondest desire is to sail, not gainsay at the pier. I think I have the cloest teak finish (that doesn't shout)on the Bay. I re- apply 2 coats a year in August.

Thanks, Ken
We have had Armada on our CD28 for three years. Wood prep is a very important step. Follow the guidelines on the container in regard to weather, You must have dry wood or the Armada will seal in the moisture. We have a boat neighbor who applied Armada after a rain and the stuff looks awful. We are into our third year of using the product. After deciding to invest the time (and you will invest the time in the prep if you want great results) we applied three coats within the first week. Each of the past two years we have gone over the wood with a scotch brite pad, just to scuff the surface, then re- applied one coat. We have been very pleased with the results.
Good Luck,

Plain-old green scouring pads they sell at HEB ??
"Each of the past two years we have gone over the wood with a scotch brite pad, just to scuff the surface .."
When people say they use a scotch-brite pad to scuff the surface, are they refering to the green nylon dish-washing pads that grocery stores sell?

There is a scrub pad made by 3M that is a "Scotch-Brite" pad. The pads come in three grades, coarse, medium and fine. West Marine carries them and they are less then $3. (I wouldn't use these on my dishes unless my huband did the cooking.)
