CD 36 new sails

Post by Woody »

Hi all
Getting ready to replace my twenty something suite of sails. Would love to hear from anybody that has a hi quality reasonably priced loft to contact. Thinking of going full batten with Harken bat car system. Anybody have such a beast? Also, would I have to use lazy jacks with such a system? I hate'em and flake my sails by hand. Thanks, Woody

Sails

This was the only way I knew to get this post back to the top. Don't care what size boat you have, just interested in some lofts and if anybody has a bat car system.

Woody,

I don't know about the Harken bat car system, but I would highly recommend the Dutchman system as an alternative to lazy jacks.

Hi Woody
I installed the Harken Batcar system A on my Crealock 37 mast. It is an easy to install system. If you want a full batten main sail, like the one I have? it will make your life much easier to raise and lower the sail. I raise the sail by hands and winch just the last foot. The only friction on it is from the reefing line and not from the sail. I highly recommend the system

Strong Track?

Post by bottomscraper »

I have never used one but I have heard good things about the
the "Strong Track" system from Tides Marine. Here are some links:

full battens and lazy jacks

Post by Warren Stringer »

Lazy jacks have not been a problem for us hoisting the main, though I can see how they might be an issue if you sail singlehanded a lot. Ours can be lowered to let us put an awning over the boom.

Thanks to all for your input. Since I have a friend at West, it will probablybe the Harken system.

Strong track

Post by Dalton »

I put the Strong track on my RH 36 and what a fantastic upgrade.
It's much lighter and less expensive than Harken. It's a very heavy duty plastic extrusion instead of a metal track and it has large machined stainless sliders. The sliders have a great universal swivel at the connection for each full batten. It goes up and down like a dream. I can take a reef in and out going down wind if I had to. cannot recomend this strongly enough.
And your sailmaker can probably sell it to you as they are going to have to fit the sliders and such.
