We disassembled the six through-hulls on our "new" CD 36 this weekend. Most had a small amount of wear and pitting, but nothing that really worries me.
But two have problems. On one, the housing and barrel have worn from so much use, that there is no more room to further tighten the barrel. Its small end fits all the way up against the washer and flange nut on the side opposite the handle. At that point, it is still a little loose, and weeps a small amount of water. My thought, on this one, is to use a spacing washer or a gasket to give a bit more tightening than currently exists.
On the second, the waste outlet, there is some severe pitting on the surface normally exposed to the hose when closed. My thought on this one is to lap, polish, and reverse the handle so that that surface is now exposed to the outside water when closed.
Spartan will not sell just the barrels, as they claim that the housing and barrel are essentially a "matched set." If reasonable, I would like to keep the existing through-hull working for a few more years, rather than having to rebed new ones.
Any comments and advice are welcomed ..
