Sail Plan: CD-22 vs. Ty Senior

Post by Richard Cashore »

Can someone please explain the rationale for the CD-22 having a masthead rig vice the Ty Senior having a 7/8ths rig? The boats appear very similar in the essential measurements. I believe the two share the same hull. It appears the Ty Senior should be a bit lighter due to less "furniture" below. The Ty Senior is attractive to me because of the motor well.

Advantages Disadvantages of the rig?

Advisability of changing Ty Senior to masthead configuration?

Other comments?

Regards,

Richard

Rigging Difference

The Typhoon Senior is rigged like the Typhoon. They're both 7/8's rig. The mainsheet on both is rigged similarly. There's no traveler, the sheet runs to each corner of the transom in an inverted "Y".
The CD-22 on the other hand, is rigged like it's bigger cousins, (i.e. CD-25D) with a masthead rig, traveler, etc.
The interiors ar different, too. the Ty,Sr. is set up a a day sailor, no tankage, no cooler, stove, etc.. The CD-22 has these features.
Yes, the motor well on the Ty, Sr. is neat.
It's too bad the CD-22 isn't similarly equipped.
