Typhoon mast,rigging,pointing,tuning (?)

Post by Ben »

I'am having problems being able to point as high as last season after the winter haul-out. I have followed the cdmanuel, marks on stays, tension settings and have tried to duplicate the standing rigging settings as close as possible from last season.

have taken "carpe diem" out in light and heavy winds re-set tensions, taken the main halyard to port and starboard has shown the same distance. sighted up the mast and have noticed the mast is at an angle about 4-5 degrees aft. ( is this correct?) although it cannot move forward angle wise to become vertical because its stepped metal to metal on the stepping plate. (the forward edge of mast at base). ive been told that the more vertical or forward the mast the better pointing ablity a boat can acquire (within its own limitations).

as there are no cape dory typhoons in the portland, or. area that I'am aware of besides mine to compare I need help.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as my experience is limited, a more seasoned approach is welcomed.
many thanks, Ben "carpe diem"

Hello Ben,
My Typhoon will be afloat off Handy Boat in about two weeks. Where is your homeport ? Maybe we could
compare some time. Henry
