Is anyone using their CD25 for other than daysailing?

Trips in a CD25

Re: Trips in a CD25
Dear Jim: We have taken short cruises (2-14 Days) aboard our CD25, usually around the eastern Long Island area. We are a family of three which really stretches the little boat's accomodations and our patience. The key to success is not to expect too much from the boat or crew. Keep meals aboard simple and dine ashore on a regular basis. Make sure the wife gets ashore for a real hot shower every day if possible. Mine will tolerate almost anything except the lack of adequate bathing facilities-don't even think the sun shower thing. Although the boat is best suited for daysails and short overnights, with careful planning you can stretch the boat's capabilities. As far as her sailing capabilities are concerned, I have great confidence in her. The primary shortcoming is her relative lack of speed, but as my son has observed, slow sailing is good because you get to spend more time aboard. Regards, Brian

Re: Trips in a CD25
We no longer have our CD25, we currently have a CD33 and a Typhoon. We had the 25 for seven years and covered every port from Block Island RI to Bar Harbor ME. Most of our trips were for two weeks and included anywhere from one person to two adults with three small children.jim stull wrote: Is anyone using their CD25 for other than daysailing?
We enjoyed numerous overnight passages on our trips and varied the stops ashore from none to many. One problem we had was the lack of alternator on our engine. This necessitated stopping at a marina with hookup for battery charging when we expected to need lights through the night.
We quickly gave up trying to keep up with ice for the ice box and instead carried only foods that didn't need it.
We had a spare fuel can and could get about 20 hours of running time on our 6hp outboard in the well.
The cabin was a bit confined for rainy periods but large enough to get the kids playing games when it was necessary.
We do enjoy the extra comfort of the CD33, but would not hesitate to take the CD25 for one or two week coastal trips again.

I had my CD25 Dauntless for 20 years and we went on numerous trips together. We took a trip most every summer of from one to two weeks. Usually two to three adults. We used the sun shower with great success. It can be somewhat tight, but then the worst day on the water is better than the best day at work. The boat will take care of you if you take are of her.
