coaming board replacement

Post by Glen »

I want to replace the coaming boards on my CD30c. I've read a bit about repairing them in the archives, but nothing on replacement.

If you have replaced yours, where did you get the teak? Did you shape them yourself or have someone do it for you (who)? Can these be ordered pre-made? And finally, what was your cost?

coaming board replacement

Post by beckydugan »

We replaced the coaming boards on Cricket a few years ago. We used South Shore Boatworks in Halifax Ma. (781)-293-2293. Bob Fuller is the craftsman and he used to work on Cape Dories. We removed one of the cracked coaming boards and he used that as a template to build us new ones. As I recall it took a few weeks and cost about $500 for 2 new coamings. It took time and patience to install the new boards...go slowly and carefully to allow the wood to conform to the fiberglass and prevent the teak from cracking. Good luck with your project.

Replacing Coaming Boards

Post by Bruce Ebling »

I am in the process of replacing one of the coaming boards on my CD25D. It was difficult removing the old board that used 3M5200 as a n adhesive. I used the old board for a template and have had no problems making the new board. I did have some trouble finding boards that were wide and long enough to make the new ones. On a CD25D I needed 10" wide X 9' long. The board ended up costing about $100. Although I have not yet re-installed the new board, I believe it is a job that is within the means of most people.
