So we made it across Lake Superior a couple weeks ago, just getting round to posting. Had a wonderful and boisterous voyage. About 12 hours overall mostly sailing at 5-6 knots right into a NE 20 knot breeze. We had most of the lake for fetch so the waves built up to about 5-6 feet but were the traditional Lake Superior short period slammers.
The 33 did really well, we pointed pretty good despite having a roller furling 20 year old genoa. With two reefs in the main and the genny rolled up she flew over the waves with the right weather helm and good control.
Though we were all sick, some pretty thoroughly, we kept pace with navigating and found that we lost about 4 miles in just over 40 while just being shy of making our course.
It was a pleasure to have such conditions and be in an Alberg. The northern sailing season has started.
Joy to you all,
Paul Danicic

my favorite things
The conditions you crossed in (20 knts w/2nd reef in main) are some of my favorite sailing conditions. The sun doesn't beat you to death and when the rig is properly balanced, it's good to be alive!
