Re-Installing Typhoon Motor Bracket

We're looking forward to our 1st full sailing season with our new 74 Typhoon "Osprey". We are planning on re-installing the original motor bracket on the boat. The boat was refurbished about 6 years ago and they took it off and replaced it with an electic motor and mount on the starboard quarter. We like the electric trolling motor, but may need to go back to an old loud gas motor. We were curious if others had re-installed.

We're a little nervous about drilling through the deck, but the most recent Sailing Magazine and a few Practical Sailor books have somewhat calmed my nerves. We're guessing we should use the origianal holes that you can see the scars in the fiberglass from where they filled when the did the retrofit. Does anyone see a problem with drilling in those spots?

In general how easy is mounting deck hardware? We've got all the original parts minus the bolts and nuts. We've got a stainless backing plate. I'm planning a trip to West Marine for epoxy and sealant.

all you have to do is redrill the holes and put it back with 3M 4200 and put a backing plate with it,
use teak steps you will see them in west marine,
use two of them side by side for more holding power.
it works just fine.

I remounted the bracket on our typhoon too. It is not a problem to do. It sounds like you plan is fine. I highly reccommend the West Epoxy guide. They sell it at most boat store for 3 or 5 dollars. It is well worth it. They guide you through the process, and give tips on making it last.
I also recommend using their products. We use them on our typhoon and built a plywood dingy with it, easy to use, looks good.
