Cape Dory 30 MKII Depth Sounder

Post by Larry Austin »

The depth sounder on my CD 30 MKII is located on the starboard side aft in the compartment under where the chart table would be. It protrudes out of the hull about a half inch with a (looks like teak)
wood wedge to compensate for the curve of the hull to keep it pointing striaght down.

I need to replace and my question is...is this placement and setup
"factory"? is this like other MKII's? when I replace I'd like to
leave the wedge out and have it flush although it would not point
straight down but offset "just a little".

Would this work?

Thank You
Larry

Larry:

My Depth sounder transducer is located below the forward locker in the foc'sle. There are two lockers, one contains the bow water tank, and the locker directly aft was modified with an inspection port in the bottom of the locker, and the transducer is located directly below the locker. Neat, out of the way and almost impervious to disturbance. The thru hull is centered on the keel line in the forward portion of the cutaway and is flush with the keel line. I am not sure if it is factory or installed by the dealer/yard which originally sold the boat, but the setup is marvelous. The yard would be Standish Boat Yard in Tiverton, RI (401) 624-4075 (ask for Ken). Hope this helps and best of luck with your installation.
