Please Restrict Photo Size to 800 or Less

Post by Parfait's Provider »

If you use a width command like the one in the line below, your images will fit in the normal posting window and we will not have to scroll horizontally to read the truncated text or see the right edge of the photo.

img width="800" src="http://www.ipass.net/louosten/sharon1.jpg" border="0" /

Note: the entire line is enclosed in < > when inserted in your posting.

<img width="800" src="http://www.ipass.net/louosten/sharon1.jpg" border="0" />

Actually I would suggest 540 pixels wide.

The windows in the WWWBoard style seem to fit in about 730 to 750 pixels of width, which works OK for everyone except those who have their screen resolution set to 640 x 480.

So it's a good idea to keep the whole browser window, including the column at the left with the poster's info, down to 750 pixels.

This means photos ought to be no more than about 540 pixels.

BTW Desktop Ruler is a neat, free program for measuring the size of objects on the screen.

640 X 480 ??

Post by Parfait's Provider »

Is anyone running 640 X 480 these days? I like to have all the resolution that will fit and 600 pixels seems a bit stingy, but it is certainly easier to work with the 1024.

If anyone is using 640 X 480, please let us know.

I too would like to know if there are very many 640 x 480 users out there.

However they are kind of out of luck because the minimum browser window width for this board is about 750 pixels. That means people can view the board comfortably, using any screen resolution 800 x 600 or larger.

Just as a general rule of thumb these days one can usually assume that between 1 and 2 percent of users still have resolutions set below 800x600, 25-30 percent use 800x600, about 50% use 1024x768 and the rest use a variety of other screen resolutions.

That's based on my experience just checking web usage stats for various sites (I'm a web designer).

Certain sites may attract a different proportion of users based on the type of site (ex, tech sites generally attract more users with higher resolutions/more modern systems.)

Are CD Sailors Stick-in-the-Muds?

Post by Parfait's Provider »

Are CD sailors Stick-in-the-Muds? Is there a large population of antique screens amongst us? How about those CD power boaters?

I just couldn't resist.
