Frustrated with new msg board format

Post by Richard »

This new format is too sophisticated for me. There are too many choices. Choices that aren't useful to me and serve only to complicate the communication process. It is not intuitive to me. I was able to fumble my way through the old format to get what I wanted. I am no longer able to do so. I'm a great believer in the KIS, I always drop the second S, principle. The new format is not simple. I've read the various instructions. It takes more of my time to figure out how to get where I want to be than I'm willing to spend.

Tho I've tried several times I haven't been able to register. The format is rather confusing, make that, "non-intuitive."

My intent is to provide constructive feedback. A reply isn't necessary.

Thank you all for your efforts though it doesn't work for me. I know you all must have worked very hard on this revision.

New Board

Post by Tom S »

Sorry Cathy but I totaly agree with Rich there is t o much protocal involved with the new board..Sailing and boating is about freedom and ease of movement. There are to many confusing rules and technical confinments to using the new site. Its awkard to use .I think the free and easy flow of information has been curtailed. Making it Simple

Post by bilofsky »

Some suggestions to make it simple:

1. As your starting page in the Board, bookmark the main forum's index page - http://www.capedory.org/board/viewforum.php?f=1. That way you start out on the page with the most recent messages. Ignore the new "main page".

2. Click a subject to read the message, just like on the old board.

3. To reply, click Post Reply. Ignore everything else - type your message in the large window - enter your name and subject just like on the old board - and hit Submit to post it.

4. To start a new topic, click New Topic, and proceed as in #3.

Ignore everything else until you feel comfortable.

I don't know how to make it any more simple than that.

"Walt Bilofsky"Some suggestions to make it simple:

Thank you for your suggestions Walt. As you can see I managed to get registered. How, I'm not quite sure. I thought I was following the instructions each time I tried. Eventually it worked.

I appreciate your patience and efforts. I did add the "Main Forum" to my "favorite places" and that speeds things up quite a bit. The information I've obtained from reading the postings has greatly enhanced my knowledge of sailing, rigging and equipment in general. I'm enjoying the Cape Dory family as represented by the the CD Forum and will continue my quest for the "perfect" CD.

I'm glad you were able to register and that you're getting used to the new board. It's really not that difficult, just very different from the old board and definitely takes some getting used to.

Don't forget, if you need help, contact either me or Walt via e-mail or post your questions in the "About this Board" forum and we'll do our best to answer your questions.
