Can anyone tell me the best prop diameter and pitch for a CD-33 with a Universal 24 HP diesel?

I will be at Robinhood Marine in about two weeks and can check with Herb, the original Cape Dory engine mechanic for you. I need to know if you want a two blade or a three blade prop.Jim Smiley wrote: Can anyone tell me the best prop diameter and pitch for a CD-33 with a Universal 24 HP diesel?

Re: prop/CD 33
I would also like some advice on the best prop for a CD330. My current prop is a RH14" 2 blade with 10deg. pitch. It seems to be terribly undersized and sounds to be cavitating as I throttle up. My Alberg 30 had a 3 blade and it seemed to do quite well. I'd like to get a similar 3 blade...suggestions?Joe Wysong wrote:I will be at Robinhood Marine in about two weeks and can check with Herb, the original Cape Dory engine mechanic for you. Re: prop/CD 33
Joe, Thanks for the offer to ask Herb what he might remember about CD 33 3-bladed props for the Universal 24 hp rated at 2800 RPM max. Actually, Wendy and Joe McCarthy at Robinhood have been very very helpful. After some experimenting with various 3-bladed fixed prop configurations, I have installed (at their suggestion) a 13" x 11" 3-bladed prop and it works much better than the 14" x 13" prop which was on LYDIA (hull # 69) when I bought her in 1990. I am still not completely convinced that the 11 x 13 is the best prop; I stil can't reach hull speed under power (the best top speed is I reach is 5.5 -6.0 knots on perfectly smooth water). By the way, I keep my boat in Charleston and I have had no problems with blisters although a friend's CD 31 (hull no. 1) was covered with them and required extensive (and expensive) repair work.Joe Wysong wrote:I will be at Robinhood Marine in about two weeks and can check with Herb, the original Cape Dory engine mechanic for you.
