25D Sail Inventory

Post by Alex Warren »

I am looking at a CD25D and realized it only has a 100% jib; when I looked at the sail plan from Cape Dory, it only mentioned the jib.Did this boat have a 140-150% option? If so, is it overpowered with the 140-150%? Do most 25D's have only the 100% jib? Sailing characteristics?
Thank you in advance for any info you can give me.Also if anyone has a 25D on the east coast for sale ,please contct me.

I cant answer the question about sail options, however, the boat can certainly handle a 150 gennie! And the review in Practical Sailor recommend a 150 gennie (if not present) as the first upgrade for the 25D!

The boat sails great!! You won't be disapppointed! One critizism of the boat is its poor perfomrance in light air (hence the need for a 150), but I came to the 25D from a Catalina 27 which was a great sailer and have not beeen disappointed with the boats light air perfomrance at all!!

Good luck with your purchase.

You will notice the head of the 100% jib on the CD25D does not go all the way up to the masthead. You can get pretty much what you want for additional head sails for the boat. A good comprimise is a 130%. This head sail will extend all the way to the top of your masthead and can be handled easily with your existing toe rail slide block system.
For winds under 10 knots it will make a difference to windward.
