YSM 8 Vented Loop

I have installed a vented loop on the engine between the exhaust pipe and the engine to prevent water entering the enjine through the exhaust system. The loop interupts the 5/8" hose that goes from the exhaust to the top of the engine. I have mounted the loop amidships on the bulkhead over the engine compartment. Anyone else with such a system? Is this the corect place for the loop? Thanks.
