Cape Dory Owners:
I am in need of information on installing anew cutless propeller shaft bearing. I have a 1980 Cape Dory 27, Hull number 179 with a Yanmar 8 HP diesel. I purchasedthis boat in the fall of 1996 and did not use it until the summer of 97. The boat was surveyed before I purchased it, as per the survey this bearing would need replacing in the near future. As per the Cape Dory manual it is shown as a BJ bearing BETA 3"x1"x- and is secured with 4 set scres but did not find any evidence of their location. Also, I would need to know the outside diameter of the bearing and the meaning of BJ Beta.
Also, I am interested in the installation of a dripless shaft seal and a drivesaver.
I intend in the future to sell this boat, in order to purchase a larger one. The one I am interested in is the Cape Dory 30. I found one for sale, it is advertised as a 30MS, I would like to know the difference between the 30 and the 30MS.
Cape Dory owners waiting your reply,
Yours truly Cape Dory, Wisconsin

They're puttied over.
I had the cutlass bearing on LIQUIDITY replaced a couple of years ago by my marine mechanic. Not a big deal and not a very expensive project.
