Ed,

Great idea! I have a 1986 CD manual for the the Typhoon Senior, 26 Outboard, 26 Diesel, 28, 30, 32, 330 & 300 MS. Adobe is releasing Acrobat 4.0 in two weeks. When I get the new version, I'll create a PDF file to accompany yours which should then cover just about everything until CD closed down. We can post the results on your website or on ours.

I want to thank Lyn, Joe and Mike as well as others for their words of support for my web site efforts. I am glad to be able to contribute something to a board that has provided me with so much information over the past few years. Walt has done a really great job of creating a site that produces so much useful insight into things that make owning and maintaining a Cape Dory a great deal easier and more enjoyable. As to the suggestion of adding aditional info on other models of CD's, Joe, I'll have to leave that to you or others as my web site quota of 5 megs is completely filled. Great idea, though.

Can't read the drawings!!!!!

Post by Bob Ohler »

I downloaded your suggested software, downloaded and saved a test drawing to a diskette,.... but I just can't figure out how to view and print the drawings. I printed the manual last nite onto 3 hole paper. All I need now are the drawings to go with it. Any idea what I'm doing wrong. Please use simple terms.... I'm not a computer geek like some others :)
Thanks,
Bob O.

Try this

Bob:
I'm certainly no computer whiz, but I believe if you designate Irfanview as you default external GIF viewer both for your browser and your operating system (i.e. Windows), you'll solve the problem. I am using Netscape 4.5 and set my browser up by:
1. Opening Netscape Navigator's "Edit" menu
2. Opening the "Preferences" Menu
3. Clicking "Applications"
4. Locating and deleting the GIF entry under "Description"
5. Clicking "New Type"
6. Typing GIF under "Description of Type"
7. Typing GIF under "File Extension"
8. Typing image/gif under "Mime Type"
9. Locating and typing the path name to Irfanview for "Application to use"
10. Clicking "OK"
11. Clicking "Edit"
12 Checking "Use this Mime as the outgoing default for these file extensions"
13. Checking "Application" under "Handled by"
14. Checking "Ask me before opening downloaded files of this type"
15. Reloading Netscape

This should bring up a window when you click on the online GIF files asking whether you want to open (view) the files or download them. I think the above procedure is pretty much the same for MS Internet Explorer. As for printing or viewing the files once you've downloaded them, make sure Irfanview is set as your default GIF file handler. Do this by:
1. Opening Irfanview
2. Clicking the "Options" menu
3. Clicking the "Properties" menu
4. Clicking the "Extensions" menu
5. Checking GIF under "Associated file extensions with Irfanview"
6: Click "OK"

The point here is to associate your GIF files with Irfanview for both your browser and your operating system. Clicking on any GIF file should then bring up the viewer and printing them from there is pretty self-explanatory. I hope this helps, but if not e-mail me and I'll try to come up with something else. My lack of web space caused me to make some choices regarding the illustrations that were less than ideal. If someone out there knows how to make a file that is both compressed for optimized downloading and at the same time viewable online as individual GIFs, please let me know as this would be the best of both worlds.
Thanks, Bob, for alerting me to the difficulties with the GIFs. I may need to make some modifications. (Sorry for the length of this posting.)

Ed Rant

Thanks. We own CD27 no. 228 and got it without a manual. Your effort is much appreciated.

A quicker way is to right click the screen and save image to your desk top or where ever you save such things. Then open the image with any photo editor you may have. This worked for me.
