CD25 Sail Upgrade Quotes

Post by Don Kolenda »

FYI. At Chicago Strictly-Sail show, I solicited several quotes for new sails for our CD25 (1974 #76 TEMA). Thought this may be of interest:
firm main powermain full batten
Sails East (TinleyPark, IL) $675 $750 $780
UK Sailmakers $798 $848 $943
Doyle $850 $925 $1,050
Quest / West Marine no reply
Several Web-based vendors no reply

Reef points were $75-$100 extra plus more $$ for insignia, numbers, draft stripes, etc. for all except Sails East. 5.0oz dacron was typical. NOTE: each had slightly different dimensions ?? but basically showing P=24 E=11.5

Reconditioning & Upgrade by SailCare of Ford City, PA:
$200 LaMauney Process (cleaning & re-resining) including addition of reef lines, draft stripe, insignia, number and some sewing repairs! They quoted $325 to take care of my jib, 150% genoa and storm trisail as well.

New hanked-on Jibs and Genoas quotes ranged from $750 to $1250 depending upon frills. I=27.5 J=8.95

Don,
If you're still checking prices, you may want to contact W. Lee Sails in Port Washington, WI. 414-284-4116. He made a great full batten main for my 25 a couple of years ago. I now have a 28 and it has a full batten main from Bill. Both sails have been excellent performers and have great workmanship. If you mention my name I'm sure he has the specs on file.

I had C&C sailmakers in Houston as well as Cameron Sailmakers in Houston make saiols for my Cape Dory The prices were great and the sails are very fast and strong. Mine were built out of 6.5 oz. This is there normal weight that they deal with. If you need their phone numbers I'll be glad to dig them up.

Fair winds
