Shipping a CD 27

Post by A. Andrus »

I am shipping a CD 27 from Chesapeake Bay to Puget Sound via a commecial shipper. I would appreciate any suggestions and tips on all aspects of the experience including shipper recommendations. Although arrangements have not yet been made, I hope to have her here by mid March. Thanks to all.

David and I had our Cape Dory 28 trailered from St. Petersburg, FL to the Chesapeake last year. The biggest hassle was coordinating the boat lifts on each side. They required written permission from the owner to move the boat on or off the truck which we didn't know about. The person who we coordinated with wasn't around when the truck was waiting for the boat to be hauled out. Also, at some point our gooseneck got broken which no one mentioned to us and we have no idea where it happened. After getting an astronomical quote from a marina for a replacement (who also told us it would take over a month to repair) we did an internet search for parts and found it at Spartan within ten minutes. They had it shipped immediately and we repaired it ourselves with a screwdriver and a tube of silicone.
Make sure you check everything out on your boat before and after the move.
Best of luck!
