rebedding chainplates

I have a 1984 CD 36 and am contemplating rebedding the chainplates. For those with experience in this area:

- the owner's manual says to torque the nuts to spec, but doesn't list the "spec". Anyone know?

- comments on best sealant to use? Dolphinite? Boat Life? Other?

- "tricks of the trade"? suggestions?
