100%! You'll get a little wet though. But that's part of the fun. Am also about to purchase one. Hope we are not talking about the same one.

Having been there and done that, I am not sure I would agree that when doing an ocean passage, 'getting a little wet' is really part of the fun! Cold, damp and salty clothes for days on end to my mind is like standing in a cold shower ripping up $100 dollar bills! Now for a day sail on the other hand I would agree.

OK for cold and salty clothes,......... but what do you think about the CD-30 ketch ??????

Re: CD-30 Ketch Blue water ????
You asked for people with actual CD 30 experience. My CD is larger, 40, but I have done a fair bit of offshore sailing. It is an excellent boat for that. Well behaved, comfortable motion. I should think that the CD 30 would also be an excellent boat. I used to own a C&C 30. It would not be so good, I think, as it liked to plane on waves. Fun with a full crew when racing, not so much fun when cruising shorthanded offshore. HOpe this helps.

I have owned a 1977 CD30 Ketch for about 1 1/2 years. It sails well offshore. Ensure you have a good survey done before you buy. If you have specific questions e-mail me or respond on this site.

Jean-Pierre,
The first issue of "Good Old Boat" magazine has a cover story with lots of good information on the CD 30. Try goodoldboat.com to see how to get the issue. I have seen several of these boats up on Lake Superior, where I sail, and the owners all love their boats very much.
Bon voyage,
Paul

Jean-Pierre, the CD30K is as fine a little ship as you'll find anywhere! Ours is hull #7, built in 1976, and we love her. She's rugged, stable, and easy on the eye. We've sailed her in Maine waters the last two seasons and anticipate many more to come!
The only drawback we see is that she's a bit cramped for a large couple with lots of stuff...and somewhat underpowered with only a 12hp Yanmar. Her first owner sailed her to Newfoundland with superb results! The ketch rig is great, if you don't mind sacrificing some speed and weatherliness. Plenty of options in canvas, lots of strings to pull.
We,ve added a dodger and weather cloths and find their shelter most welcome. Know that John C. down in Houston was contemplating a circumnavigation in his...hello, John...are you out there?
