I am looking for information on the repair of transmissions attached to the 1981- MD11C Volvo engine put in various sailboats. The specific sailboat I'm working on is a 1981 - 33' Cape Dory.
I'd especially like to hear from anyone who has done this work or who can recommend a shop to do it.
Any help is most appreciated.
Happy Holidays,
Mike

Re: marine transmission
The first question is what kind of a gear box do you have? Most Volvo engines came with volvo gear boxes-either m/s or rb. If its a paragon or Hurth you will have many options-I do not know where you are located . If it is a volvo gear box your options are limited. I am currently having mine rebuilt at Foley Engines in Worcester Ma-they advertise in Soundings magazine and have a web site, they seem very knowledgeable and I will let you know how I make out- I have a MS volvo gear box.Mike wrote: I am looking for information on the repair of transmissions attached to the 1981- MD11C Volvo engine put in various sailboats. Re: marine transmission
Sir:
I agree with Mike, that you must identify the gearbox first. However, I strongly suggest that you contact Atlantis Marine Gear Supply before taking any action. The person that you want to speak with is my old boss, Mr. Boyd Jackson. The man is a legend in the marine transmission business.
The company is located in Topsfield Mass. Tell Boyd that Peter sent you.
