I have found a porblem with water collecting in a pocket in the after portion of the keel bilge. There is a pocket, 4x4x12, aft of the start of the self-bailing cockpit, extending to the rudder shaft. What was the purpose of this indentation? In order to install a bilge pump I will have to cut into either the cockpit or ice locker to get access to this pocket. I'm woried about ice forming if any water gets in during the winter.

Nick:
It sounds to me like you're talking about the sump. If so it's ok, thats where the bilge water is supposed to go. That's where I put the input hose for my bilge pump. Yes I did have to cut a hole in the bottom of the storage locker under the cockpit sole. For the winter pump, it as dry as you can and pour a gallon of red pop (non toxic antifreeze) into the bilge.

Thanks for the information. I tried to send you some email but I had some problems with your address. (BETT@stmp.munet.edu) Is this correct?
