Thanks for the great pictures of the Typhoon. Alberg designs always turn my head. I understand that you used to have a Sea Sprite 23. I had one but traded it for a CD 25. Now I have moved from Boston to Portland OR and am in between boats. How do you like the Typhoon and how does it compare with the SS23?
I always appreciate your comments on this web page. Thanks for taking the time to help all of your fellow CD fans out there.

Re: THE TYPHOON WEEKENDER
Thanks Mark,
I think of the TY as being very similiar to the SS23. Both very basic with small coach roof, close to the water, great handling, stable, etc. Love the sheer look, etc.
As you may have guessed, I like small quality boats. I think they are the best to getting the feel of water, wind, etc., maintenance, and cost for the joy.
Portland?,,,,,,I had a chance to visit it recently....lovely city. Love the gorge.
To all:
I am trying to put together a web page (like those I have posted) for all the CD sailboats under 30'. If you have any foto's of the CD25, CD27 or CD28....I would appreciate it. Of course, any request to block the name of the boat, etc. for confidentiality would be respected. Foto's do not have to be perfect....3X5 are great. Interior as well as interior are appreciated.
Thanks again,

Re: THE TYPHOON WEEKENDER
Cudos to Dana, thank you for the photos, I've been sailing my Ty all season on Raritan Bay and lovin' it. Alberg knew what he was doing. I'm looking up, but I want to keep the Ty.

Sea Sprite 23vs. Cape Dory25
Mark..you didn't enter an E-mail address. I am interested in hearing your comparison of the 2 boats. I own a SS 23 and have established dialogues with several people regarding what we consider the "spirited handeling" of the SS compared to the Ty. I attribute this observation on my part to the fact that I have weight on board cut to a bare minimum and usually sail alone. I've heard testimony of people sailing Tys in 30 knots of wind.....with competent control. Once you appreciate the plusses and minuses of the SS 23's 30 foot mast and reduce canvas in a timely mannner the extra performance is well worth it.

Re: Sea Sprite 23 vs. TY
Harris, I've been out of town for a while and have not been checking this website. There is a good discussion of the SS23 vs. the TY on this message board posted on 9/21/98. I have never owned a TY but have some limited sailing experience on them. I must say again that I loved my Sea Sprite. She did have a tall mast and carried a lot of canvas which made for "spirited" sailing. We never had any problems, however, and were out in all types of weather. We had two lines of reef points on the main and a line of reef points on the 150% Genny (the old fashioned kind, not a roller furling). She was tender on all points and would quickly heel to about 25% when close hauled. I also did a lot of single hand sailing and would often sit on the low (lee) side. It gives a very different perspective and really gave me a feel for the stability of the design and the power of that little boat. My wife Kim and I will always miss her. I must admit that my heart always jumps when I see one. Best of luck with yours. I hope that she continues to bring you the joy that ours brought to us. Mark Marroni
