Typhoon: single handed step/unstep mast

Post by Paul Owens »

Typhoon on generic trailer. Any tried and true techniques for stepping/unstepping the mast single handedly? Trailer winch together with jib halyard work OK for vertical to 45 degrees. Between 45 deg. and horizontal are the problem. Home phone: (760) 371-4897.

I have raised my Typhoon mast several years now by attaching shrouds and backstay, preparing foresay or jib halyard, inserting the base of the mast into the tabernacle, and then walking the mast up. I do it with the boat in the water, since I don't use a trailer. I am 5'6" and weigh 140 lbs, (no muscle). I wait for a day with no wind.
Good luck.
