Cape Dory 28 Trawler Cabin Key

If you have had problems getting a duplicate cabin key made, I have just determined that a duplicate can be made from Taylor brand # 538 blank. It works fine and is smaller in size than the original key.I have no idea whether the blank will also work for other Cape Dory power boats.

The cabin door and latch mechanism on my CD 30 powerboat looks like it's non-marine - very similar to the sliding door and latch to my balcony at home, in fact. The latch is chromed and the chrome has pretty much flaked off. Is the CD 28 latch similar? Has anyone found anything to do about it?

I have the teak cabin door on my CD 30 powerboat. The latch, or at least the lock mechanism, is made by Yale and it is of the European variety. I have not been able to have a replacement key made that works, but I will try the Taylor brand # 538 blank. I must admit, the chrome is holding up very well, with a good fresh water wash down after each use, the only maintenence performed. Only problem I have is keeping the handle form falling off. The set screw has a habit of backing out while underway!
