Advice on upgrading ice box to refrigeration?

I have a CD 30 with just an icebox. I am planning to add refrigeration this fall. Other than just looking at the descriptions in West Marine's catalog, does anyone have any suggestions before I start with regard to the type of unit to buy or possibly some do's and don'ts before I start? Also, does anyone know how thick the insulation is on the icebox of this boat which was built in 1977?
