Bimini's and booms - CD25

My bimini interfers with the boom, making it necessary to position the boom higher so the sail shape suffers. Has anyone shortened the sail to keep the height of the bimini more comfortable or is it better to lower the bimini killing the standing head room? Will the performance suffer much with 12" off the foot of the sail? I need help! thanks.

I have the same problem with my CD 27. I have a friend with a hunter 23 that cut his sail higher at the rear of the boom to allow his bimini to be taller. He has been pleased with the results, and his bimini allows more headroom. I am thinking of doing the same thing.

A friend of mine took about 8inches off the head of his sail for his bimini on a Typhoon. This raised his boom without significantly reducing his sail area.

Take the 12" off the head of the main. I did this on "Seraph", but only 6" was needed. I then fabricated a "slot" gooseneck fitting to replace the stock hard mounted gooseneck fitting.

Cutting off the head of the sail when you have a fixed gooseneck (and boom) won't raise the height of the boom. Only cutting the sail diagonally starting at the tack and ending up 12 inches above the original clew will cause the rear of the boom to sit 12 inches higher. On boats with adjustable booms, cutting of the head will allow the boom to be raised.
