My New Boat!!!!!!!!!

Several of you had written me wondering why I had sold my CD25 the other day. I've been so nervous. I had found a CD26 for sale on a remote site, and wanted to grab it before anyone else did. Yesterday was a marathon. After finishing-up a 12 hour shift at 2am, I towed my CD25 5 hours to Portland to it's new owner. From there, I drove another 3 hours south to Marion,MA where after sailing for a few hours, I signed the papers on my new (to me) 1985 CD26, hull #29! I'm in love! The boat is in very good condition with new sails, New Honda 9.9, spinaker (how do you do it?). all teak and gelcoat is in excellent shape.
I'm still under contract in Maine but when I finish here in November, I'll be bringing it down to NC for a few "Dark & Stormy's".

It's so nice to be able to stand up for one thing. When sailing also, the additional weight makes quite a difference. I never felt unsafe in my 25 but the 26 seems like so much more boat. I know those of you with even larger boats may be chuckling, but to me, it seems like it could handle anything.

As you have already written to me on this tonight, I am very happy for you. For those of you who are not aware. Scott bought my "first boat "Mr. Peeps". I have wondered what ever became of her after she was auctioned off. I will send you all the photos I have of her (I have to scan them as they are all polaroids), and which I keep on my desk at work. As you said, small world.

Congratulations!! You'll love the CD26 -- I just sailed mine about 90 nautical miles across northern Ohio on Lake Erie, and what a wonderful sail we had. You're right, it's, to me, the right size, not too big, but, as you say, big enough to stand up in when you want to change your underwear!! I have only had one season with mine, but as I've grown used to her, I've really come to love the boat. Enjoy yourself!!
The hardest part of sailing the CD26 is, IMHO, bringing her into dock because of the controls on the outboard. Placed where they are means you're looking back when you need to look ahead. Also, the lack of a true traveller is a bit of a problem. I intend to put a traveller on my boat over the winter.

One of the most striking differences between my CD25 and this CD26 is the tiller. The one on the 26 is really "beefy" in comparison. I don't think I'll be needing your wood-working skills for a new tiller anytime soon. Knock Knock

Your new boat can handle anything. She survived two hurricanes with only some cosmetic damage. If grounded, she lays down like a real lady and gets back up the same way.

Yeah Ken, they've already started pulling their boats out of the water. Beautiful scenery but the season's too short. I'll take advantage of it as long as I can before I leave in November but I'm already looking for a little propane heater!
