Typhoon cradle needed

Post by Arlene Hajinlian »

Need to purchase or have a cradle made for my Typhoon weekender. Boat is on the Hudson in Nyack. Previous years I've paid for winter storage where jackstands were used, but this year I have to follow club rules where a cradle is the law!! Any cradle available for purchase, or any advice/plans to follow for having one built will be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks.

Arlene,
Check a few post down on the board....there's a cradle for a CD22. It should work for your Typhoon. I have a cradle for my Typhoon that the marina has borrowed from time to time to haul a CD22. Worth a try.

I can somewhat understand the marina's interest in using cradles instead of stands basically because there is less likely hood for the boat to "fall over" due to chain slip/sinking ground etc. But a couple of thoughts for you.

1. The cradle should have adjustable pads. The orginal cradles were shipping cradles and were relatively new. As they age the any fixed wood supporting stands tend to spread and may not exactly match the hull profile. Results may be a deformed hull if the boat leans on one side, not supported equally sideways. The adjustable pads will also allow you to paint the pad areas with the help of a couple of movable stands.
2. Boat yards tend to move boats around from time to time. Is the boat yard now moving boats with a fork truck if it is in a cradle?
3. Are you now charged with "cradle storage" during the summer?
