Diesel for CD25?

Can one install a Diesel on a CD25? Question is motivated by 9/13/02 entry Cape Dory 22D below.

Diesel Outboard

They do make diesel outboards, but they are rather heavy and somewhat underpowered vers a good 4 stroke gas. I love my CD25 but you would never get a return on your investment and would be better off looking for one that already had diesel like a 22D, 25D, 26D or a 27-30 footer if you need that fuel.

Yes, there have been a few owners who have installed diesels in their CD25 (not 25d). Very few have done this, but it has been done. There are also a few Sea Sprite 23 with diesels in them.

Yes indeed, John. We recently purchased a 1975 CD25 which has an inboard Yanmar. The Outboard slot was closed up and is now a storage area. The engine is where the cooler used to be.

A few years back, when I was looking for my CD25, I saw one with an inboard diesel set up in Jamestown RI. I believe the owner told me it was a factory install. The engine was located where we have an ice box. My take on it was that in the close confines of a CD25 cabin, the smell and noise of the diesel would be more than a little uncomfortable. I remember the smell hit me the second I entered the cabin and remained strong while I inspected everything.
