I want to cover the forward hatch on my CD25 with wood (teak or mahogony)strips. Can someone recommend a mail-order supplier or someone up here in Maine to purchase the wood or can it be bought from any lumber yard? thanks

Check with a lumber yard first. They may not have what you want, but may be able to suggest a local source. Or try the yellow pages. If that doesn't work, you can order teak through the West Marine catalog.

I assume from your questions that you are not a woodworker. The project which you have in mind would be a relatively simple matter of cutting a plank of mahoghany or teak to the size required, epoxying to your hatch and sanding/varnish, etc.
This approach can still be taken; go to your local carpenter (or anyone else who has a tablesaw - your father-in-law, your uncle!), bring over your lumber and give him a six-pack. Seriously, you can expect to pay quite a bit for "pre-cut-marine" lumber!!!
I have a book in my library which describes, in detail, how to cover a hatch with strips of lumber to give the appearance of a wooden hatch; "The Sailor's Sketchbook", by Bruce Bingham. I recomend this book to you - it contains a bunch of ideas for transforming our plain white boats into "saltier" looking vessels without spending a fortune!

what a coincidence, I purchased this same book last week. My only question was where to purchase the teak. Today I did find a specialty wood shop that has manhogony. I may go that route. thanks to all that replied. Scott
