CD30 Layout

Post by Jay Kanavos »

Of the 363 CD30s built, does anyone know how many of the "B" layout were built? As I understand, the B layout had a nav station (similar to the CD 33) and a forward configuration similar to the CD25D (i.e. toilet and wet hanging locker).

I own a CD 30B Hull # 358. It is as you described. No V berth. Head forward with two hanging lockers behind the head, i.e. directly aft of the forepeak (behind the chain locker). It also has a nice navigation station on the starbord side and a quarter berth, with access to the area under the cockpit from the quarter berth. I like the layout but there are others who prefer to have the V berth and no quarter berth. I don't know how many were built, but apparently not too many.

I also own a CD30 "B version." It is a 1984 model, hull # 335. I have often wondered how many of the B plans were built. Does anyone have any idea, or how we could find this out?

How about a survey?

Post by Gary L. »

I will go out on a limb and assume that most Cape Dory owners at least periodically check onto this website. Maybe we could post a survey? For the record, Red Witch III is a "B" interior model also.

Gary, great idea. BTW, CD30 #327 is also a B-interior.

Also, I was wondering if you have a "B" layout why do you refer to your boat as a CD30C? What does the "C" refer to?

Jay,

The "C" in CD30C refers to the cutter rig versus the ketch rig on the Cape Dory 30 footers. The interiors were labled A and B.
