I would like to know if any CD25 owners have taken off (or re-bedded) lifeline stanchions. How do you reach the nuts to remove? I tried cutting out part of liner (behind head on port side) but even then could not reach them. What's more, there does not appear to be any way to put on a backing plate since the nuts tighten on two different levels where the hull-deck joint comes together.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Removing Lifeline stanchions
I am in the process of rebedding my deck hardware and I must agree that it is quite a job. I own a CD-28. I bought a deep well socket of the appropriate size (11mm I think) and use a long extension on my socket wrench. I takes quite a bit of contorsion and patience to be able to get them back together including the washers and backing plates, but it can be done. Maybe someone else can let us know if the CD 25 is significantly different in this regard compared to the CD 28.Jim Hollister wrote: I would like to know if any CD25 owners have taken off (or re-bedded) lifeline stanchions. I completed the CHORE last fall on a 25D, and it was just that a very difficult & tedious chore. The port aft one (over the galley) is absolutily a b----..... Then I forgot to replace the backing plates on the port side and had to re-do the nuts et.al.. (I'm a big dummy). Anyway the one on the port aft didn't seal very well so now I have to re-do it. I sure do dread it, but what can I say, it has to be done!! What are you guys bedding with? I use 5200 quick cure and it appears to be working well. Hope I can get it to break loose on the one I have to re-do. I used 5200 on my old boat, and had to re-do one because the stanchion tube was hollow and the 5200 shot up the tube instead of making a gasket. It was not hared to re-do, hopefully the one on the 25D will be the same. Good Luck

Re: Removing Lifeline stanchions
I'd like to rebed my stanchions next spring (CD28) and have been following the discussion. I'm wondering if the nuts can be fixed to the backing plate first and then bolting to the underside of the deck. Seems like most of the stanchion bases have the same bolt orientation. The bow and stern may have their own design. This would seem to make installation a little easier since the bolts could be tightened without a tool holding the nut. Since you're in the middle of the job, your thoughts would be invaluable.
