amidship cleats

Thank you Ken and Larry for the cleat info. Clears things up for me as I was sometimes having difficulty docking when the dock hands were on coffee break or lunch or painting, etc. When soloing, my BP rises each time I go to dock. So, my favorite puppy it will be. Bill

You certainly are welcome. You will love this technique..the best thing is that it just gets more useful, the higher the winds are. We use this method for **Every** docking now, as practice makes perfect etc. So it will be a prefected maneuver when the crosswinds are blowing 30 off the dock!

Hey! My 30 doesn't have a midship cleat! Is this an improvement you have made? It sure sounds like a handy addition. An earlier post mentioned the cleat mounted on the genoa track. *???* Is the genny track backed substantially enough to withstand docking stresses? I'm a little bit confused - please fill me in a little, because anything that'll help docking in cross-winds is something I want to know about!

I am not sure if the amidship cleat was a newer modification to the CD30 or not, but the cleat itself is amidships inserted at the toerail, near the genny track. Confusing? If you do not have one, you can install one. Just do a search of previous posts on this board.

Spartan Marine (see URL below) carries the one you want. It is let into the toe rail, and serves nicely as the midship cleat. I have a picture of our boat that I can send you with the cleat installed..send me your addr. to get it.

I do not recommend using the genoa track mounted cleats for CD's bigger than 28ft.
