Crowing While I Can - 1952 3 HP Evinrude Lightwin Running!

Post by Ken Coit »

It works! Removed carb and found a dry float bowl even after adding fuel to tank and opening valve. Cleaned out every passage I could, made sure float valve was working (I think it was stuck shut), gave everything a shot of WD40 for good measure and reassembled. Made sure fuel was flowing from line to carb (low fuel in tank with a slightly tilted engine can cause problems here). Opened high and low speed jets to 1 turn each. She fired up rather quickly and settled down to running. Running in the barrel, I only got rough settings of the jets; high speed is 1/2 turn open and low speed is 1/4 turn open. Starts quickly and runs quietly. For 50 years old, I'd say that's pretty good. Owner to pick up soon, before it doesn't start again.

I created a set of notes for the owner. If anyone cares to have them, send an email. BTW, there is an Antique Outboard Motor Club; check it out at the link below. I have an idea they also discuss engines.

Keep on sailing,

Hey Ken:

This past weekend I saw a 1958 Evinrude 3 hrs serial #3026 02076
pretty good shape but they wanted $300. Is that too much?
