lazy jacks

Post by Ken »

Just had lazy jacks installed. Not sure if I was doing something wrong or if they are not installed properly. When I tried to pull the main up , it kept getting caught in the lazy jacks. Could someone tell me what is the prcoedure for using the lazy jacks. They worked fine when I dropped the main. Although it did seem like the lines could be further back on the boom { towards the stearn }. How far back should the lines be on the boom ?

Ken, the main will inevitably get tangled up in the lazy jacks UNLESS you are hoisting it when the boat is directly into the wind, especially with the bigger CD's. I had them on my CD25 and I could almost free the main from the lazy jacks with a strong pull-up, but no such thing can happen on the CD-33, much less on the 36. You must be totally upwind with the boom -and main- right in between the lazyjacks when you hoist. Once you get used to them, they ARE a blessing. Enjoy.

I don't know what kind of setup you have for your Lazy Jack system .
I have mine configed in such a way that I can keep the leward side jacks down untill the main is fully raised. At which time I can then deploy the lazy jacks on that side of the boom and mast. I have them setup in such a way as to keep them attached to the mast, untill they are needed. Then I can raise them as needed. It works on my 330. I just have keep in mind which way the wind is blowing. Perhaps you can set yours up in such a way. Lots of Luck.

mine work the same: fabulous when dropping the sail, less so when raising especially if i'm alone, wind is stiff, and powerboats are whizzing around me!
